Mosaics of constructed images form imaginary aerial photographs rich in detail
“In an effort to reveal the massive impact of human beings on the surface of the Earth, Cássio Vasconcellos used composite aerial photographs to create seamless panoramic mosaics that depict open spaces overwhelmed by people and man made artifacts. Hundreds of different images come together to create imaginary landscapes – from afar they are rolls of texture, but up close, they are packed with detail. The photographs blend documentary realism with creative commentary: at their foundations they are composed of real images, but Vasconcellos combines and edits them – and exaggerates them – to emphasize the scale of human consumption.”
