In Aéreas #2 (2007-2014) what guides the lenses of this self-proclaimed “air junkie” is his passion for art. Instead of the bird’s-eye view of Aéreas #1, here Vasconcellos’ works with the right angle of a helicopter view. He frames a sunny beach mushroomed with colorful umbrellas; a busy highway diagonally cutting the Mata Atlantica forest; the Rio-Niteroi bridge over Guanabara bay in contrast with the silver-grey texture of the rippled sea below; a samba school in Carnival with its joyful group like neat yellow dots over the asphalt; the bottom of a public swimming pool transformed into a gigantic geometric Concrete art canvas…
